Team USA shuts out Bulgaria at M-1 Challenge: Second Edition

Bourgas, Bulgaria – When former NFL running back Herbert “Whisper” Goodman left the Mladhost Sports Hall in Bourgas on Saturday night, he did so under the impression that he had suffered his sixth career loss. However, Goodman was informed a few short hours later by M-1 Challenge officials that the decision had been overturned and that he had recorded his ninth career victory courtesy of a second round knockout over ex-UFC veteran Jordan Radev.

Goodman was matched up against the former Bulgarian National wrestling team member as a part of a best-of-five head-to-head match between Team USA East and the host country, Team Bulgaria. The overturned decision allowed USA East to walk away with a 5-0 shutout over the Bulgarians.

A night of finishes in M-1 Bulgaria

The second event of the 2009 “M-1 Challenge Presented by Affliction”series just wrapped up from Bourgas, Bulgaria.

The night’s action saw a combined total of fifteen bouts. There were six teams, each five men deep, and each representing a different portion of the globe. The teams competing in the Bulgaria event were Germany, Turkey, Russian Legion, World Team, Bulgaria and USA East.

Fans in attendance most definitely got their moneys worth as thirteen of the fifteen bouts resulted in a finish. From knockouts, choke outs, heel hooks and armbars, this card had a little something for everyone.

USA TEAM EAST SHUTS OUT BULGARIA AT M-1 GLOBAL

Radev was originally ruled the winner of the fight via unanimous decision. However, the 32-year old veteran was knocked out cold by Goodman with just seconds remaining in the final round. With referee Mika Sinkkonen deciding that the knockout took place a split second after the bell, the fight was turned over to the judges’ scorecards, with Radev being announced as a winner.

Karl Amoussou Signs Managerial Contract With M-1 Global

An impressive 2008 campaign during the M-1 Challenge has landed French welterweight phenom Karl “Psycho” Amoussou a coveted managerial contract with M-1 Global.

For Amoussou, fighting in his his blood, as he is the younger brother of former PRIDE veteran Bertrand Amoussou. Utilizing an array of explosive striking skills, the younger Amoussou went 4-1 last year while competing for Team France in the M-1 Challenge.

“We have been following Karl for several years now and always saw his great potential,” M-1 Global officials announced soon after finalizing Amoussou’s new contract. “The first time he fought for M-1 WAS three years ago and we’ve supported him ever since. We are very proud to welcome him in the M-1 family.”
